WeTheNorth Market

Stepping up to fill the spot of the recently-closed CanadaHQ marketplace, WeTheNorth is a new darknet market that caters exclusively to residents of Canada. Somewhat surprisingly, it also maintains a presence on the clear web, though we’re not exactly sure why. Per the market itself, the goal of WeTheNorth is “to provide a safe environment so that Canadians are able to purchase safely, scam-free and away from the street violence, drugs and other items that are more potent, cleaner and safer to use.” The market is still very new but has managed to attract dozens of vendors from CanadaHQ, and as a result, already has thousands of listings. All important market text is also provided in French.

Like many of its contemporaries, WeTheNorth features the familiar AlphaBay-inspired layout that has been the template for countless other darknet markets. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; the template is copied because it works, and it means a lot of users will already feel comfortable when using it for the first time. The rules of WeTheNorth are loose; meaning they have only banned the sale of fentanyl and the other usual DNM no-nos. Being such a new market, it’s hard to get a handle on whether the operators are in it for the long-haul, but it seems to be doing a good enough job to attract veteran vendors and repeat customers.

Product Selection

WeTheNorth sports a very traditional collection of categories, which include the following: Fraud, Drugs & Chemicals, Guides & Tutorials, Counterfeit Items, Digital Products, Jewels & Gold, Carded Items, Services, Other Listings, Software & Malware, Security & Hosting. As you might expect, many of these categories are filled with the same spam-esque listings you can find in just about any other darknet market, but the Drugs category does feature several different vendors with (as of now) small numbers of sales under their belts – many of these can probably be recognized by Canadian darknet market goers. It’s a bit annoying that each listings page begins with Featured Listings that are usually irrelevant, but other than that, WeTheNorth is easily navigable and intuitive to use.

Payment Methods

WeTheNorth uses the traditional account wallet system and supports both Bitcoin (BTC) and Monero (XMR) as deposit options, though not all vendors will accept both coins. For the moment, all orders must go through market escrow, and no vendor has been granted FE privileges yet. Direct Pay and Multisig payment options do not appear to be on the horizon, which means you are 100% at the mercy of the market after making a deposit and dependent on them remaining operational.

WeTheNorth Pros

  • User friendly, easy-to-navigate.
  • PGP encryption mandatory.
  • Large selection of listings for a new market.

WeTheNorth Cons

  • Limited to residents of Canada.
  • Sponsored Listings are a bit spammy.
  • No FE, Multisig or Direct Pay options.

In all, WeAreNorth is one of the fastest-growing darknet markets to ever exist, picking up right where CanadaHQ left off, and the Canadian community seems to be happy with it thus far. If you aren’t a resident of Canada, don’t bother trying to place an order for a physical product here as vendors are not permitted to ship items outside of the country. Keep in mind that all escrow is held by the market and avoid making large deposits until you are confident in its abilities to perform the services advertised.
